If you plan on committing to the great American road trip, you will want to have as much of your shit together as possible.
Here are my big 4, short and sweet.
- Bills! They must be taken care of otherwise they are a drag on your journey.
- Debt? You should probably have that zeroed out.
- Savings, all I can say here is, if you didn’t put your head in the sand for a few months and save, your trip will end sooner than later. Traveling costs money.
- Vehicle, With so many of the countries beautiful little secrets becoming better known, you will want to have transportation when you realize how close you are to things you might have missed out on.
With those big 4 items at 100% functionality it’s time to start gathering information. Yes you want your smart phone with you. Yes you want all the best apps you can find suited for your goals. For me, my apps in order of use are: Allstays Camp & RV, AllTrails, Pinterest, Public Lands, iexit, & Couchsurfing.
So what is your goal?
Mine is establishing permaculture roots within me, so that one day I will be able to apply that to my future. So with my main focus learning sustainability and permaculture, I became a member of WWOOF.org. This opened a whole new door for me that would have otherwise been closed, by keeping my secondary focus on experiencing the beautiful places and national forests of the world. I am also able to locate WWOOF farms that are in the same areas of my desired travels. In most cases they will feed you, provide you shelter, and teach you the most undervalued skill in today’s culture. If you have some specific skills and the desire, you can be accepted to some of the better permaculture farms in some of the most beautiful places in our country. This means those “top 30” places in the United States to see before you die…are most likely right next door to a WWOOF Farm.
So what do you wanna bring to this party?
