The Gem City Podcast started recording at DATV (Dayton Access Television) and it’s been surprising how many guests we bring in each week don’t know anything about this 40 year old area nonprofit. Not only has DATV been a huge asset to us here at the podcast, it has the potential to be an asset to our fellow creatives and communicators.
In this episode, our host Libby Ballengee speaks with DATV Executive Director, Rosemary Bradley. She explains DATV’s history, the development of two channels of programming, and how locals can get the most of out this community resource. It’s only $50 a year to be a member, which includes use of all the equipment, studios and training!
DATV is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that, since 1978, has given Dayton the “Freedom to Communicate.” Our mission is to serve as a community forum that empowers all citizens to learn, create and express their ideas through electronic media.
As the original form of social media, DATV provides the training, equipment and facilities for local residents to create their very own non-commercial local cable TV programs. Last year alone DATV’s 500 plus members created over 4,500 new local tv programs for and about Dayton.
DATV operates two cable access channels in the City of Dayton, Ohio on
Spectrum. DATV, is a public access channel seen on Spectrum channel 5 in Dayton, Riverside and Butler Twp. and on channel 6 or 23 in Dayton’s northern suburbs. Dayton Spiritual Television is a religious access channel seen regionally on Spectrum Digital Ch. 992.
Right now – DATV is looking for donors! If you are inspired by their mission – please consider making a donation here:
