We love Stand Up Comedy and Wiley’s Comedy Club. @theizzyrock sits down in the green room of Wiley’s to chat comedy with Don Smith and Charlie Hester.
They have a show with Keith Bergman on May 3 & 4, 2019 at Wiley’s Comedy Club 101 Pine St. Dayton 45402
Don Smith has been acting in local theatre and the occasional independent film since 2001. Five years ago, he made the transition to stand-up comedy, appearing at open mics at Dayton Funny Bone, Wiley’s Comedy Club, and whatever bar was brave enough to host a comedy open mic.
Don began hosting The Life Radio Show in January of 2015 while finishing his BA at Wright State University. He was able to continue the radio show and has now been on the air for over four years, turning the show into a podcast in January 2017. Each week, some of the best local comics, musicians, and filmmakers come into the studio to talk about comedy and whatever other strange things come up.
Over the past few years, Don has appeared in several feature films, including Calamity Jane’s Revenge, Nothing Good Ever Happens, Western World, and Six Feet Below Hell (which is nearing its second full year available at Redbox). He is also in two more feature films set to be released in the coming months, Straight Outta H8 and Kill, Mamba, Kill. He also has a number of short films and TV pilots on his resume.
In September of 2017, Don became a part owner of the legendary Wiley’s Comedy Club in Dayton’s Oregon District. He continues to appear on stage telling jokes as often as he possibly can, wherever people will let him.
Charlie Hester is a musical stand up comic from Danville, Illinois. Her unique and catchy tunes- which consist of rocking out on her electric baritone ukulele and singing off color songs- have delighted audiences everywhere.
She is the creator of the hit Courtyard Comedy series, a live monthly comedy show which brings insanely talented comics to her backyard. She has performed at Improv Boston, Laughfest, The Steve Allen Theatre in LA, Brew HAHA Festival, Laugh Factory Chicago, and many more comedy clubs and venues across the United States.
Her latest project is “The Great Girl Drive” where she collects pads and tampons for women’s shelters at every comedy show she performs in during 2018.
Charlie is a Lyme Disease warrior and domestic violence awareness advocate. She also attempts to give back to her community whenever possible, participating in many charity shows, fundraiser events, and benefit tours throughout the year.
