This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC), a major milestone for any contemporary dance company. In fact, this local touring company is the oldest modern dance company in Ohio, and one of the largest companies of its kind between Chicago and New York City.

The company was founded in 1968 by Dayton, Ohio native, Jeraldyne Blunden. It was a groundbreaking project during a very tumultuous time in US history. The company has continued to be on the forefront of dance history, receiving numerous national awards, including the highest dance honor, the Bessie Award.

In February, to kick off the 50th Anniversary year, DCDC invited former dancers and staff to come into Dayton for “The Gathering.” We were honored to be invited to this very special DCDC reunion, and capture interviews with current and former dancers and staff. What you will hear are incredible and inspirational stories that demonstrate the amazing ripple effect Blunden had on both these dancers, and the Dayton community.
