We had a wonderful chat with of Dayton’s true visionaries, Rodney Veal. Rodney is an independent choreographer and interdisciplinary artist serves as adjunct faculty for Stivers School of the Performing Arts, Sinclair Community College and the University of Dayton. Rodney currently serves as Coordinator for the Creative Arts Community at Sinclair Community College. Mr. Veal is a graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a B.S in Political Science and Visual Arts and received his M.F.A in Choreography from The Ohio State University. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Ohio Dance as Vice President and serves on the boards of HomeFull, Musica!, the advisory board of WYSO and the Friends of Levitt Pavilions Dayton.
Mr. Veal is the recipient of several Montgomery County Arts and Cultural District grants and fellowships, he was recently awarded a MCACD Fellowship for 2010-2011. Several of his works have been performed as a part of the Ohio Dance Festival. He was one of five artists chosen nationwide to participate in the Blue Sky Dayton Project Artist in Residency Program held in collaboration with the University of Dayton in the summer of 2009. Rodney has choreographed and presented performance installations all over of the Miami Valley, recent notable projects are Reveal: Five Zones of Beauty presented at the Springfield Museum of Art in the summer of 2011 and the GHETTO installation at the University of Dayton’s ArtStreet in the Spring of 2015.
Rodney recently received the 2016 OhioDance Award for outstanding contributions to the art form of dance in the state. Rodney can currently been seen as the Host of the Emmy© Award winning Television series THE ART SHOW on Think TV Channel 16.
