We had a fabulous time chatting with Amelia O’Dowd! Four years ago, she and her husband Brian Eastman opened Brim, a hat shop in downtown Dayton, during a recession no less. What inspired this niche boutique to get off the ground? What did it take to stay open? Amelia’s lessons inspired her to start a support and resource group for all the female owners of businesses in The Oregon District, called The Dames of the District. We explore the power the hat, why accessories are important, what it’s like to live and work for someone not from here, among other juicy topics. Hope you enjoy the convo! -Libby

From the owners of Brim:

We believe in the power of a good hat. We believe that somewhere out there there is a hat just right for you and it’s our job is to help you find it. To help in this mission, Brim offers a wide selection of hats for ladies and gents from major brands to small artisan makers. Our accessories collection is based around small makers and unique finds, with a strong focus on American made.”
