The Fall League
The Fall League documentary selected for screening at 2015 Baseball Film Festival in the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, NY

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum (Cooperstown, NY) announced that The Fall League, a movie about seniors, softball and life, has been selected for screening in their 2015 Baseball Film Festival taking place September 25 – 27.

The film captures the story of Dayton senior slow-pitch leagues, “magnet” leagues which attract players from Troy, Sidney, Tipp City, and Vandalia as well as Dayton, Cincinnati, Springfield and Columbus.

This poignant film skillfully blends the commentary of experts Leon Speroff, M.D., a senior player himself and an advocate of the many benefits of slow-pitch for seniors; Dayton psychologist Dr. Kathy Platoni, a veteran of the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars; and Dennis Turner, Slow-Pitch Manager for Louisville Slugger.  Expanding its scope beyond sport, the filmmakers explore the impact of family relationships, the bonding and camaraderie between players, and topics of aging that are necessary considerations for active seniors.  It highlights military veterans in the league, and explores the relationship between team sports and military experience.

The Fall League is a film by Taller Trees Productions, a Dayton-area production company.  The production team is headed by Tim Gebard (producer), Jennifer Taylor (director) and Dean Vincent (co-producer).  The film also features an original motion picture soundtrack, composed by Gebard and recorded at Vincent’s Studio D in New Carlisle.

In April, 2015 the movie was awarded “Runner Up” in the documentary category at the Indy Sports Film Fest Experience at The Arts Gallery of Ontario (AGO) in Toronto, Canada.  Aaron A. Weiss, director of the festival, says “…The filmmakers have crafted a compelling story about one of the fast-growing populations in North America.  This film about seniors is important in a society that can be seen to devalue its elders.  It interweaves the theme of sports with issues of aging and health.  It shows us that we can enjoy life and have fun playing sports at any time in our lives.”
